Information on the course of the conference and the topics discussed
Today, Critical Theory is an undisputed part of academic discourse in very different disciplines. Authors of the first generation, such as Theodor W. Adorno, have become "classics". However, Critical Theory has now reached an evolutionary stage in which some commentators are asking fundamental questions about its social relevance and emancipatory effectiveness.
With a view to today's globalized societies in late capitalism, the question arises as to how more up-to-date socially and ideologically critical perspectives and approaches to action could be developed. Such alternative approaches are not only relevant for the social and cultural sciences, philosophy, history and literary studies, but also for art, music, linguistics and translation studies, which have a particular proximity to artistic and linguistic practice.
The aim is to discuss critical viewpoints from a wide variety of academic perspectives and social milieus. Different dimensions of criticism - from psychoanalytical approaches, feminist and historical perspectives to technology and media criticism - will be examined with regard to the relationship between theoretical reflection and social practice.
